Patti,

I cannot tell you where these men served. I have not seen their military records. There are several newspaper articles in my file about Tom Seamans written after his death. One article states that he spent the last 18 months of the War at Sabine Pass, but he said in 1909 that he was not mustered into service until May 1864. Another article relates his story of a deserter who stole a horse at Sabine Pass in early August 1864. He was captured in Beaumont and executed by a firing squad.

Still another article tells the story of a "Confederate Jayhawker" named Tom Bass from SW LA who was captured at Nibletts Bluff on the Sabine River. He said that if he ever met Uncle Tom, he would kill him. Years later, the two men met up on a road in NW Tyler County and Tom Bass had "lost his anger". The two men road together.

My belief is that Tom Seamans served in the local homeguard until May 1864 and spent the remainder of the War in SE Texas, East Texas and SW Louisiana fighting jayhawkers, capturing deserters or doing nothing. The military records of those other two men may shed light or cast doubt.....don't know.
