In Response To: Capt E. V. Butler Papers ()

Mike; This regiment was formed in April 1864 by consolidating Border's seven company battalion and Fulcrod's four company battalions into a regiment with Anderson being named as Colonel. The consolidation occurred as a result of orders moving both units to Tyler to serve as guards at Camp Ford. On July 20, 1864, about a hundred of the men deserted en masse under the leadership of Lt. G. H. Hardeman. The balance of the regiment was then relieved and sent elsewhere. If you find these papers, and if they have any references to the time period at Tyler, I would sure appreciate you sharing with me.

Thanks
