Capt E.V.Butler, Border's-Anderson's Cav: Abel Lee
In Response To: Capt E. V. Butler Papers ()

Mike Glen Thompson,
.
I apologize for not posting this info years ago. Below is "Capt. E.V. Butler" info that I should have posted years ago, since it has been on my computer for years.
.
E.V. Butler was Martha's (Butler) Lee’s brother (Abel Lee's brother-in-law). E.V. Butler witnessed Martha’s Young County TX CSA Pension Application for Martha in 1900. ..Abel probably died in Rockwall and is buried in the Butler family graveyard but the graveyard is in a subdivision and all the gravestones have been destroyed.
.
Martha (Butler) Lee and her children lived in Newcastle, Young County, Texas by the late 1870s. She is buried across the road from Fort Belknap in the Fort Belknap Cemetery. We don't know how she ended up in Young County, but Abel may have been stationed there for a while when she visited or she may have come with her brother, E. V.
Butler. Just a guess. E. V. Butler was a Cumberland Presbeterian Minister who performed many marriages in Young County.
.
From my book:
.
Lee, Abel, (1824 IL-May 9, 1871 ? Kaufman Co TX, now Rockwall Co TX (buried in the Butler family graveyard in a subdivision where gravestones have been destroyed); m-1852 to Martha Ann Butler [3 ch] of Kaufman Co TX (now Rockwall Co), sis of E.V. Butler who signed her 1900 TX CSA widow’s 1900 pension application #6061 that read:
"1st Capt. Childress’ Co. [Erath Co, TST] — [Darnell’s] 18th Texas Cav. -- 3 mos. discharged. 2nd Capt. E.V. Butler's Co — Border's Regt. Texas Cav. served about two years.”

.
From my 174-page Name Index of my 1,046-page book:
.
Abel Lee, 1824 IL-1871 Kaufman [now Rockwall] Co TX; m-Martha Ann Butler (Erath Co, TST)
.
Not to be confused with:
.
Abel John Lee, b-1823 AL; wife Millah (b-1821 Indiana) and dau Frances (b-1858 MO) were killed on the Clear Fork of the Brazos, 16 mi from Ft Griffin, while 3 ch (born in MO and TX) were taken captive for several months; 1860 Erath cen, p120
.

.
Editor's note: Mike's query points up why we should post info found in Civil War Confederate Pension Applications. This info has been on my computer for years. I should have had the foresight to post on the Internet, specifically his forum. This info that would have probably saved Mike Glen Thompson several hours of work.
