Re: Micajah Blackwell - Twice the soldier

Micajah may have been considered over-age in Oct.1861. By Feb.1863 I believe they were conscripting men up to 50 years old. My maternal 2 x great grandfather was a conscript from Sullivan County in upper east Tennessee. He was in Co.B 19th Tennessee. He was also captured during the Tullahoma campaign on July 3rd 1863 at Cowan, Tennessee. No record of his taking the oath or agreeing to go north of the Ohio river for the duration.Family lore says he cared not for either side ! He returned to Sullivan County and had several run-ins with the local Confederate reserves / home-guard. There's even a story they made a half -hearted attempt to hang him but he survived and lived till 1906.
