I'am having trouble posting new posts; for some reason. I can only make posts by replying to an old previous post of mine.
Until i figure it out, could someone kindly re-post the following to Rob Allen, concerning Gideon Choate.

Gideon Choate-24th Tenn. S.S. Batt.
deserted on June 27,1863(presumeably at Shelbyville,Tenn.)

Dillon Choate-24th Tenn. S.S. Batt.
deserted on June 29,1863 at Shelbyville,Tenn.
Note* Goodspeeds' Hist. Tenn. 1886; states after 6 months he returned to his home(Humphreys Co.)

George T. Dotson-24th Tenn. S.S. Batt.
deserted on June 29,1863 at Shelbyville,Tenn.
*my ancestor

There was a man named "Choate" (Cross' guerrillas) and another named "Dark" (McNairy's guerrilas) found by Union cavalry at a house on Indian Creek,Humphreys in 1864. Choate escaped on horseback and Dark was killed. I believe that they may have been
rebel deserters from the 24th SS. Both guerrilla bands were notorious, operating primarily in nearby Hickman Co. Cross' men
executed 16 Union stragglers , 20 were rounded up, one escape and
was shot dead shortly after by a local farmer. The 19 other prisoners
were told they would be paroled. They were taken to a ravine in Hickman County and shot. Surprisingly, three men survived.Lying on
their dead comrades.
