Re: Andrew Jackson Lacy 4/8 cav

Thanks. I was aware of this website. Unfortunately, with regard to my ancestor, there are at least a couple of issues I have.
(1) The website says Lacy may have been a member of the 16th TN Infantry. There is no record to my knowledge that would substantiate that. I contacted the website owner quite some time ago and he admitted he was only going on someone's suggestion.
(2) The website says Lacy transferred into the 8th Cavalry (Baxter Smith's). As shown by George Martin's reply, Lacy enlisted (not transferred) in the 8th Cavalry (Dibrell's, not Baxter Smith's). Regimental designations were frequently confusing. Dibrell's Eighth Cavalry is sometimes shown as the 13th (Gore's).

Another error I've seen in more than one place online is to confuse this Andrew J. Lacy with one who enlisted in the 51st Tennessee Infantry. What may have contributed to this confusion is the fact that my Andrew Jackson Lacy was from Jackson County, Tennessee, while the 51st Tennessee was raised in the area of Jackson (the town, not county) in West Tennessee.

Happy to correspond with anyone having an interest in Andrew Jackson Lacy.
