23rd TN Inf. (Newman's)

I am trying, without much luck, to find more information about my paternal gggrandfather, Sgt. Williamson Raney, b. Bedford Co. TN.
He served in the 23rd Battalion Co. C Tenn. Inf. (Newman's Battalion) He enlisted in October 1862 under Capt.
Stanfield.. Thompson Creek, Bedford Co. TN..Mustered out in Winchester TN 13 Nov. 1862.

January through February 1863 he is listed as "absent sick with measles".

I have no knowledge of where this unit was, when he died, or if he died from measles or any other way. I sent Tenn. State Archives and that was the last date they had accounted for him.

Can anyone tell me how to find out where the unit was at this time? I would like to try to find out where, when, how he died and where he is buried. All my father ever knew was Sgt. Raney died during the Civil War.

Not much to work with, but I intend to keep at it until I find where this man was. The ever present 'brick wall' seems to have completely blocked me out. I want to find him.

Thanks.
