This is the same person (violinist-conductor and brother of opera prima donna singer Adelina Patti), and his service in or with the Confederate Army Signal Corps has been "overlooked" in that incomplete recital of his war record and false account of its end: Captured at sea en route on blockade runner to a new assignment, he was faced with prison camp or "taking the oath." With intervention by his musical family, he was permitted to take the oath, renouncing Confederate service and avoiding the prison camp. Joined his extended family overseas, returning after the war to re-establish his musical career in this country (St. Louis), his ending was early and sad, penniless and alone. Body later moved to family plot in Paris. He was credited as conductor in New Orleans with introducing and popularizing "Dixie" in the early weeks of the war, and, as a young "Latin lover" cut a wide swath though the fairer sex of this land.
