The last company muster roll for the company which survived to be incorporated in the National Archives Compiled Service Records, is that dated August 31, 1864.

Had Joseph deserted anytime after this date, we would not have a record noting this fact.

There would have been at least three other bi-monthly muster rolls held, unfortunately they have been lost to posterity. These are the basic documents which record a man's service. There were no such files as the modern day personal Service Records at that time.

May 1 to Aug 31, 1864 muster roll, brother Joseph, absent, in clothing department by order of Gen. Hardee, ordered to report to Major Cunningham Jan. 4, 1864 No further muster rolls
