Re: John/Jack Minton (deceased POW)
Thank you George. I'm active in the Sons of Confederate Veterans, based on my ancestor William Carroll (W.C.) Minton's service in the Confederate army. It's been difficult trying to pin down whether his brothers served. There are a half-dozen A.J. Minton's, one of which might be W.C.'s brother Andrew Jackson. There are several John Minton's, but I think the deceased POW has the best shot at being one of W.C.'s brothers. I also found a reference no a James Minton, a Confederate soldier (the name of another brother of W.C.) on a pension application as a reference, but no official file.
By the way, for those interested in the POW camp at Ft. Delaware, where quite a few Tennessee POWs wound up, I highly recommend Dale Fetzer and Bruce Mowday's "Unlikely Allies: Fort Delaware's Prison Community in the Civil War, published by Stackpole Books.
