Since this man enrolled on Feb. 6th, we can be certain that the law of Feb. 17, 1864, did not apply to him. Also, the law did not simply extend the age range to include young men age seventeen and older men ages forty-five to fifty. The law created two classes of reserves, junior reserves for those age seventeen, and senior reserves for the older group. Junior and Senior Reserves were placed in seperate organizations, not included in regular Confederate commands.
