Re: Tennessee regiments, Shiloh

Alan,

I have been throuhg the TN Adjutant General papers at TSLA recently and got some information on arms for Tennessee troops including a listing as far back as 1819.

But there are not the detailed arms purchases for 1861 that Alabama has it seems. I do have the listings at the state armory from the period newspapers as they reported the arms therein. Flintlocks were the greatest number of weapons listed. There was a program of conversions to percussion caps ongoing but it was not big enough and so a number of TN regiments were stuck with flintlocks.

The accounts of Mill Springs are telling for the Tennessee troops there while the 15th Mississippi was armed with Jeff Davis rifles. Had the Tennessee regiments been equally armed that battle might have been a CS victory.
