My grandmother also refered to us as "Black Dutch". We are of Scottish ancestry, from the town of Govan or Gowan. Looking at old photographs, several members of the family were dark complected and had dark hair. Granny had dark hair and eyes, but a light complexion. She was very tall, about 6ft. At first glance, you might assume we had African-American or Hispanic blood, but that is not the case.

I look like the stereotypical Scotch Lass. Red hair, blue eyes, light complexion and freckles. So does my sister.
