I don't know why, but anything connected to Ft. Donaldson I find of extreme interest. Perhaps it is the thought of hundreds of those soldiers jumping into the frigid, ice cold water with heavy coats and swimming a half mile or more. It had been snowing with freezing rain falling within the past few days before the capitulation.
