J. E. Fry-3rd Reg. TN Vols

A Shakespeare of the War

Adjt. Gen. H. H. Norman has received the following letter, which is reproduced from the American for the information of the parties concerned:
Bellville, Ill. Dec. 7, 1892-
H. H. Norman, Adjutant General of the State of Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee- Sir: After the surrender of Fort Donaldson there fell into my hands as “abandoned property” a volume of Shakespeare’s plays. From a memorandum on the fly leaf it appears that the book had belonged to J. E. Fry of the Third Regiment Tennessee Volunteers. I presume he was an officer. Can you inform me whether he is living yet, and what his address is? I should like to return the book to him.

Very respectfully,
Wm. C. Kuffner
Late Brev. Brig. Gen. USV
