McAdoo for 3 years, recorded on the July/August, 1863 muster roll as having deserted July 2, 1863 on retreat from Tullahoma, captured in Humphreys County October 28, 1863,** confined at Nashville, Tenn., forwarded to Louisville, Ky. April 22, 1864, received at Point Lookout, Md. from Hammond General Hospital May 20, 1864, sent to Fort Delaware, Del. June 23, 1864, swore to the Oath of Allegiance to the US May, 1865, released May 30, description, resident of Humphreys County, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, 5’ 8”

* This company subsequently became Company C, 24th (Maney’s) Battalion Tennessee Sharp Shooters. Company C entered the service on the 13/15 December 1862.

** Two cards in his file of 21 cards record his capture on July 1, 1863 at Allison’s Bridge, July 1, 1863. This does not match up with his Federal POW records

M268: Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of Tennessee

Note, he could very well have been detached from his command around July 1 and unable to join up with them, he returned to his home. Subsequent company musters held do not record his name, indicating that he had been dropped from the rolls on the July/August, 1863 muster, never rejoining the regiment.

This Battalion was Organized May 2, 1863

The company retired with the army of Tennessee from Shelbyville, Tenn. on the 27th June 1863 and reached camp near Chattanooga Tn, in July 63
