The Civil War records indicate that he died of disease at Altoona, Georgia, 7 July 1864, but there is not a burial place listed. I have information for his wife and children taken from the 1870 Federal Census (District 3, Claiborne, Tennessee, p. 6, l. 37/36), and of her second marriage to Harvey J. Kivett (taken from 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 Federal Censuses) and their children. Jack's Ausmus' connection is through Mary (b. 1814-) father: John O. Ausmus (1778-1853 - Rockingham, Virginia). She married Jack's 2nd Great-grandfather, William Moss Briscoe (1808-1886) on 27 Nov 1830 in Schuyler County, Illinois.
