Re: Our history is changing once again

Thanks Mike, "You may be aware there were some 200 undelivered letters from Camp Chase Confederate prisoners fairly recently discovered in 1948."

Well not really. Mr. Phillip W. Porter donated the letters to the Virginia Historical Society around 1948. He was the son of Mrs. Porter who had convinced the Ohio legislature to turn over the missing Chase letters to her as she had been the current UDC President for the State of Ohio. Mrs. Porter felt she could find the letters of the people whom they were intended. As far as I know she did not find any but held upon the letters. Phillip Porter was a well known newspaper man and was in charge of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Mr. Porter and his wife were murdered in the 1970's at their home in Shaker Heights, Ohio. There had always been an X number of missing letters at Chase. The VHS has declined to allow the current descendants their letters. However they will allow the descendants to make a copy for about $10.00 which they charge anyone who wants a copy.

Thanks again for the heads up.
