Memphis Tenn. 1901 Confederate Veterans Reunion

I found a full page newspaper article covering the convention and parade of the May 30-31, 1901 events. The crowd of along the parade route was estimated at 100,000 yelling, cheering people. It took two and a half hours to march 15,000 Confederate veterans through the streets of Memphis. The convention represented 1,331 camps from twenty-two states, territories, and divisions. Including those from Indiana, Ohio, Washington D.C., Oklahoma Territory, Indian Territory, and the Pacific Division. These camps sent 2,305 delegates to the convention to vote on officially thanking the Federal Government for moving dead Confederates from the District of Columbia to Arlington and for the preservation of the graves buried in the North, voting on Dallas for the next convention and for the erection of a monument to the women of the South for the aid which they gave to the Confederacy.

Note: the parade was covered in extreme detail, with this one I found interesting albeit very racist.

"One of the Nashville uniformed companies had a number of ex-slaves and negro veterans marching in the rear. The two that came last were black as the ace of spades, but their old faces were shining with pride. One carried a saber and his stride was that of a stage hero. The other had a fat pullet thrown over his shoulder and looked as though he had just returned from a foraging trip that caused some one's chicken roost to suffer."
