Marcus Woodcock Union 9th KY Infantry

Maybe someone with access to Fold 3 could fill me in on this man. He's the subject of this book : https://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.php?id=606

My only source on him is :

- Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky which shows him "deserting at Perryville, Kentucky, 10/8/1862. I'm wondering if his compiled record at Fold 3 shows him being separated and later rejoining his command. If he is the 1st Lieutenant William M. Woodcock of Company B 9th Ky, this man is shown enlisting at Atlanta 9/21/1864 and mustering out the following December 15, at Louisville. At Family Search I found that in 1896-1897 he attempted with a lawyer's help to get the "desertion" removed from his record, I assume for a pension. I'm wondering, if he was not with the 9th KY. from October, 1862 till September, 1864, how he could describe all the battles and experiences he went through ???

I descend from east Tennessee and North Carolina Confederates and also southern Unionists. I would probably enjoy reading this book, but not if it's subject was a fraud !
