A friend of mine sent me this and we're kinda in a debate.

He says that Thomson was the designer of the flag but I just want to make sure because I don't know of any good sites or books on this.

H. Preble (1871): Our Flag: Origin and Progress of the Flag of the United States of AMERICA, pp 115-116. You can find the boom on-line on Google books if you want to.

Mr. Thompson SUGGESTED to design, and a former naval captein, Mr. Postell drew it out based on Thompsons suggestion. Thompson being the editor of the Savannah Morning news at the time, the flag and its creation was chronicled in the paper, which is also searchable on-line if you want to have a look at it.
