Robert M. Howard a Private from Muscogee County, Georgia "Applied for authority to raise a company of colored
troops" on April 1, 1865." Robert enlisted as a Private in the "Columbus Guards" Company G, 2nd Georgia Infantry, on 10/1/1861. He transferred into Nelson's Independent Company of Georgia Cavalry, 6/20/1862. The 1st, 2nd, and 24th, Georgia had Irish (or the sons of) Irish immigrants in their ranks. I'm aware of the 1st Georgia having a number Negro musicians,(slave & free-born.) How ironic, for modern historians to try and explain, two of the most despised races of people during the Civil War era, served together in the "racist" Confederate Army.
