Re: Lamar Fontaine of Lyon, Mississippi

Mr. Eddy:

Thank you for putting an old man's mind to ease. I really was worried about Mr. Price, its just not like him to go that long without posting something. I know he is getting on up there, so I was afraid he was sick. He's always posting on the Vicksburg graves and other MS things, and is one of my favorite characters on the boards. Now I had best shut up and move on before our genial web master gets un-genial cause we are way off topic.

As for Matthew Fontaine Maury, it disturbs me greatly that as famous and celebrated as he was in his lifetime (I believe the Czar of all the Russias invited him to his country and feted him; Other Kings and Queens and heads of state celebrated him, etc.,etc.,) today he is all but forgotten. My Mother was a Parrish before marriage and the Fontaines and Maurys intermarried with the Parrish family back in early Virginia. I therefore always claimed that Matthew was a distant cousin of mine, rightly or wrongly. In San Antonio, we had the Maverick family (the same famiiy from which the word "maverick" entered the language) and in particular Maury Maverick who died about 10 years ago, that descended from the same bunch. Now I had best shut up and get back on topic. Please send my regards to Mr. price when next you speak with him.

Thank you.
