The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Lamar Fontaine of Lyon, Mississippi

Hello, Mr. George H. Martin:

What an incredible record this fellow had. Born in TX in 1829 makes his family one of the earliest pioneers in the area. (Stephen Austin's first group came in 1823.) Civil War & Crimean War vet as well as a TX Ranger! Civil Engineer in Argentina. Was in Infantry, Cavalry, infantry, and on and on. Certainly one of the richest and most complex bio/record I think I have ever read. I am intrigued beyond belief on this one. I wonder why this man and his life is not better known? I live in San Antonio and think myself up fairly well on TX history, but had never heard of the man. Do you Mississippi people have a historic marker up anywhere to honor this fellow?

I thank you most kindly and deeply, Mr. Martin, for posting his record.

As an aside, while I have the attention of some MS people, is anyone in contact with Mr. Sam Price? I am worried about him as he hasn't posted in way too long for him. I'm afraid he is in hospital or even worse. Can anyone out there verify he is ok? Does anyone visit his house or even have his e-mail address? If anyone hears anything, please post.
