Sam - I will have to respectfully disagree with you. Given the date of death - which is before the ship "Choctaw" was operating in the Mississippi, and given that he has a Confederate stone bearing the legend "Choctaw CSA", I believe that this man served in one of the Confederate Indian units, quite possibly one of the units recruited in the state of Mississippi.
