My gg grandad Color Sergeant Andrew "Big Andy" Stevenson Payne, Columbus Rifleman, 14th Mississippi Infantry, also survived Camp Douglas Twice.

He was surrendered at Fort Donaldson, but managed to sew the canton of the colors inside his jacket & bring that part back. Now at MDAH.

Second time was captured around Nashville & sent back to Camp Douglas, to be released after the final Confederate Surrender.
