After his capture and imprisonment, he was exchanged at Vicksburg on Sept. 2, 1862, and returned to duty. On April 7, 1864, his request for transfer to Co. C, 34th Alabama was approved by Gen. Polk. In his application for transfer he stated that he was a citizen of Alabama and was on a visit to Mississippi when he enlisted for 12 months, and that at the end of that enlistment he requested a transfer to an Alabama unit but was denied. When he applied again in 1864, he referenced an act of Congress allowing for such a transfer. He stated that he had friends and relatives in Co. C, 34th Ala. As a member of the 34th, he was captured during the Battle of Nashville on Dec. 15, 1864, and sent, once again, to Camp Douglas. From there he was discharged after the war on June 20, 1865.
