Not sure if it makes any difference or not, but was he one of those
young men who were not yet in the war, but signed up for the
money given. Were the Union men doing that at the time.
I know my cousin's ancestor was a Bullock in north Alabama who joined
for like $200 'bounty" given for signing up.
I am just sure his mother sent him to join for the money so she could feed the rest
of the children since her husband was already dead. That trip to join the Union
Army was nearly killed the poor guy as he got sick and spent nearly his whole
enlistment in the hospital.
Some of these folks who are so proud of their ancestors for being with the Union
need to check to see what the Union was doing at the time to get the people of
the local areas to join them.
Not exactly sure where Dolby Price's family had come from, but my own Price kin
had originated in the Spartanburg District of South Carolina. They left there in
about 1834, were barely into state of Alabama, and then floated into Arkansas
on barges when the state of Arkansas was entered into the Union as a
slave state. Was Dolby Price part of the surround Prices that seem to pop no
matter where the South Carolina ones were.
Good luck on learning more about this particular Price.
Linda
