8/28 New Camp near Tupelo-Gen Cabell is very strict
9/5 Camp Priceville-Lt Paul of Hobbs’ Regt
9/6 Camp at Guntown Itawamba County, Weidemeyer [6th Mo] to wife-…
9/7 camped near Tupelo until this day when we were ordered to Saltillo arriving the same day. -20th Ark
About 9/7 our brigade [Martin’s] went to Baldwin from Saltillo as 1st move towards Iuka-Martin’s Bgde was composed of 36 Ms-37 Ms-37 Ala
9/9- Gen Price arrives at Guntown. All the Regt. rush to his carriage to see and speak to him He took up his quarters in the town
9/11 leaves Guntown for Iuka-7th Ms Bn

9/11 the 18th Ark moved out of the Guntown and Baldwyn camps and marched to Iuka arriving 9/13

9/13 Weidemeyer of 6th Mo says-Traveled slowly all day - Made 6 or 8 Miles - Reached camp 10 P. M Nothing to eat - went to sleep - In an hour Commissary Sgt [Robt P. Bledsoe] waked us he had some beef. We began to broil it on coals, but in a few minutes ordered into line for the march - We were hurried off without eating our beef, but some of the men were so hungry they eat it raw – Gen Green came round and directed us to leave Knapsacks and blankets that could not be Carried conveniently - He said we had to reach Iuka before day about fourteen miles - Gen Price wanted to surprise the Yanks - We arrive in 4 miles of Iuka at daylight - formed line battle, then wait for rear to come up
