After the surrender at Vicksburg, many of the Confederates were paroled and marched to Enterprise, Mississippi. The siege at Vicksburg was particularly brutal for many of the soldiers and some became sick. They were given thirty days furlough and for many it was a difficult trip home even to parts of Mississippi because of the damage done by the Federal troops to railroads etc., not to mention the return. Many of the soldiers failed to show up after a thirty day period and were considered as absent without leave. I did not see the exact date of his return but records do indicate he came back for duty.
