My great-grandfather, George Washington Bracey served in the 4th Mississippi Infantry, CO C. According to FAMILY records he was DISCHARGED on May 4, 1865. However, FOLD3 shows he was AWOL after Vicksburg. I never met him as he died of smallpox in 1878; BUT knowing my grandfather, his son, I cannot believe he went AWOL.

Can anyone help me prove he DID NOT go AWOL and that he served with honor until discharge?
