Virgil, I totally agree with his last name being spelled as Steele. His tombstone however has the surname of Steel. About 15% of the tombstones at Chase are incorrect in various ways. It could be the surname or unit information. The NCA will not change a tombstone because of a spelling error at the current time. That is one reason why I put at the end of his short biography if I were making the tombstone it would read..............and I do quote the surname as being spelled as Steele in which it was in my opinion.

If you would be so kind to send me one of his letters home or a letter written to him it will be read at the Camp Chase memorial this weekend. The purpose of the memorial is taking someone like JBS and telling his story and bringing his story to life again to the crowds who attend the memorial.
