The last name is spelled with an e on the end, and always has. I have copies of a few letters James wrote during the war and a few his father Archibald wrote. I live about 7-8 miles from their old homeplace in Amite Co.
Not at home at moment, so I can't check my file, but I believe he served in another unit earlier, and transferred to the 33rd
