George & Virginia,
Further records of Albert P Hill can be found in the records of Confederate officers. At some point after his resignation as Capt. of Co. G, 18th Miss. he was appointed as a captain of a Mississippi cavalry unit. Several records for purchase of fodder bear his name. He resigns this position to accept appointment as a Colonel - Judge of Military Court - Army of Northern Virginia. He probably served in the cavalry under Col. Isham Harrison, Jr., who would later lead the 6th Mississippi Cavalry. Harrison wrote a letter of recommendation for Hill's appointment as a judge. When Hill resigned on Dec. 10, 1862, he wrote his resignation letter to Gen. Stephen D. Lee, commanding a Brigade of Cavalry at Vicksburg. After serving as a judge in the 1st Corps (Longstreet's) in the Army of Northern Virginia, his surrender record is much closer to home, signing his parole at Meridian, Mississippi, May 10, 1865.
