Jesse Russell, Private, Company C, 32nd Mississippi Infantry, his Yankee POW records indicate that he was a Confederate deserter, captured December 5, 1864 at Nashville, Tenn. where he was turned over to the Provost Marshall there. He subsequently subscribed and swore allegiance to the United States, and released on December 9 “to remain North of the Ohio River”

Note: There are no muster roll records for Jesse. The last muster roll on record for Company C is that for the bi-monthly period March/April, 1864. This would indicate to me that he was a Conscript, drafted sometime later having reached the age of 17 or was 50.
