I am thoroughly confused. The cemetery where Jesse Russell is buried, Russell Cemetery in Natchitoches LA, his headstone inscription says he was in 32nd Co C. This is where his wife is buried also so pretty sure this is my ancestor. I have checked all the sites for his name and service. Two Jesse Russells come up, one in 32nd the other in 42nd. My Russell family did migrate between Lawrence Co MS, Pike Co MS, and Natchitoches LA. Is it possible Jesse Russell did actually travel from Pike County MS to Iuka MS to enlist? And, why would he do this? Did he fail to enlist close to his home? I have copies of his civil war papers but would really like to have some opinion as to why he might have enlisted so far away from home.
Thanks.
