Twin brothers from Tippah County

Would love some help or assistance in trying to find out what happened to my two great - great uncles (twin brothers) who enlisted in the Confederate Army and then disappeared during the war. I've diligently searched census records, pension records, confederate burial records to no avail. Before I throw in the towel, I thought that I might make one last inquiry to you good folks. I am a member of the SCV Forrest Camp out of Memphis.

John D. Cross 32d Miss Infantry Co E. Hatchie Tigers/Hatchie Rifles; enlisted 17 Mar 1862 out of Tippah County. Wounded at Chickamagua on 20 Sept 1863 and sent to the General Hospital where he disappears. Mistakenly carried on one burial role as having died and buried at Pogue Cemetery at Falkner but that is his father. I know that it's probable that he died from his wounds at Chickamagua but I'm hoping to find out something more definitive, if possible.

Albert G. Cross 23rd Miss Infantry Co G. Tippah Rifleman; mustered into service around Ripley 1 June 1861. Captured at Ft. Donelson and sent to Camp Douglas, Ill where I found him on the Hospital Roll where he was subsequently exchanged at Cairo, Ill sometime later. Just like his twin brother above, he also disappears. Again, I suppose that I can presume that he succumbed to his illness at Cairo from whatever he caught at Camp Douglas, but, again, if possible, I would love to find out something more definitive. I would appreciate anything: ideas, suggestions, etc. etc. Thank you Lt. Col. (Ret) Mike Cross judmag52@aol.com
