William C. Falkner started the war as a Captain for the 2nd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry. He would soon become the Colonel of the regiment. He did survive the war and like many grandfathers after the war told his grandchildren about his war experiences.
One grandson in particular paid close attention to his grandfathers stories. The stories would go on to influence the grandson to write short stories and novels and he became an award winning author. Of course I'm referring to the famous Mississippi author William C. Falkner.
