He was buried in Grave No. 125, Soldiers Rest, Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg City Cemetery. Unfortunately, the original cypress grave markers were long ago disintegrated and these grave locations are no longer identifiable. Tombstones were placed in the late 1970s in sections by State of organization.

The Record of Events for Company A has the only description of their activities during the siege of Vicksburg and should reflect also that of Company C.

March 10.— The company left Camp Timmons for Yazoo City,
taking the steamer Magnolia at Haynes' Landing. Stayed at
Yazoo City a short time. Went over half way to Greenwood on
the steamer Kennett; was ordered back. The company was put
aboard the steamer Mary E. Keene, a cottonclad. Remained on it
fifteen days. Was sent then to Fort Barry, above Greenwood.

April 10.— From there took passage for Haynes' Landing on
John Walsh. Went back to Camp Timmons in a short time Was
soon put in the ditches on the Yazoo River, the gunboats of the
enemy going up the same. In a few days were ordered to War-
renton.

May 17.— Remained [at Warrenton] and near there until May 17.
Was ordered back to Vicksburg. Was put in position in the
trenches on South Jackson Road and North Railroad, midway.
Occupied this position fifteen days. Were moved to the right, on
the left of the Second Texas Regiment, 300 yards, North Rail-
road. The siege was bad alike on all forty-seven days. Was
exposed all the time to a galling fire, both artillery and small
arms. Five men were killed, two seriously wounded. The men
stood to the post of duty with cheerful firmness to the last, being
on one-fourth rations during the major part of the time.
