The family account might have gotten the circumstances of William's death incorrect and perhaps he died at Baker's Creek instead of a battle on the Tenn-KY border. I appreciate the explanation of Co. C's involvement. I had hoped there would be a listing on a death roll somewhere in Mississippi records that I hadn't been able to locate.
