Re: James T. Reeves/Reves of the 34th MS Inf. Co C

I am trying to learn more about a Pvt. James T. Reeves/Reves who joined the 34th Mississippi Inf., Co. C on September 17, 1863. He was captured Nov. 24, 1863 at Lookout Mt., Chattanooga, TN. He was sent to the Rock Island Barracks were he died on December 9, 1863. As Co. C. was raised in Lafayette County would it be likely that Pvt. Reeves was also from Lafayette County? There are several James Reeves in MS in the 1860 U.S. Census, but most lived 2 - 4 hours from Oxford (Lafayette Co.). It seems rather far to go to sign up in Oxford. Any thoughts on how far men would go to sign up? There was one James Reeves in Lafayette Co. in 1860, but I didn't want to assume that was the correct one. Thanks for any help and guidance!
