36th Alabama Volunteers

I have two relatives that enlisted in this unit (Co.I, under Col. Robert H. Smith, Capt. Matthew Calvert) from Wayne County, MS and served. They are John Joseph Blackledge and step son John W. Steelman. According to Steelman's uncle Phillip Napier in a note to John McRea) Blackledge died of disease in Aug. 1862 and Steelman was killed 2/16/1863, both in Mobile AL. My questions if anyone can help:

1) Napier's April 1863 note to McRea requests Mcrea to collect the pension funds for the mother of Steelman. He refers to enclosing the Captains Duplicates Affidavits. What are these affidavits, and how might I find a copy?

2) I believe I have found the 2 soldiers graves at Magnolia Cemetary, Confederate Rest, both names being misspelled on the headstone. How would I find any medical or internment records for these 2 soldiers?

3) How would I find out what killed John Steelman, using the date of death 2/16/1863, location of Mobile, AL, Co. I, 36th AL Volunteer regiment?

Any other assistance is greatly appreciated! Michelle
