Napoleon Decatur Mc Coy Letters 7th Miss.

The 7th Mississippi connections have done it again. Civil War letters from N. D. McCoy Co. C 7th Mississippi were seen at the Amite County Heritage Days in Liberty, Mississippi.

The letters were submitted by a family member to the Amite County Genealogy and History Society. I personnally viewed and verified that the electronic transcriptions were from a man in the 7th Mississippi and were written to his sister from September 1861 to April 12th of 1862. He survived the battle of Shiloh, but died from fever at Oxford, Mississippi May 20, 1862.

Prior to this find, he had been erroneously listed as Napoleon Bonaparte McCoy on our roster. There was a man by that name who was in Co. K 33rd Mississippi also from Amite County.

We are now awaiting permission to review the original copies to check the transcriptions so we can include them in the regimental history and post the letters to our website.

If you are related to the McCoy family in Amite County, please let us know because if one set of letters exist, there may be another set sent to different family members or friends.
