[This note was included on many men in this regiment who were on initial rosters and disappeared; most changed companies, were discharged and rejoined; or decided to go to another regiment to get to the war sooner. i.e. 12th Mississippi (ANV); or they wanted to go with a different leader, i.e. men from Franklin County chose to join Kinchen Webb's Company (Franklin Guards, Co. D 33rd Miss.)].
{George, I think this is our man: "M. W. Ward, Private, Company I, 7th Regiment Mississippi Vols., enlisted February 13, 1863 at Covington County, by Capt. W. S. Webb for 3 years, killed in the Battle of Chickamauga, September 20, 1863. Note: Another card in his file show he enlisted Sept. 27, 1861 at Bay St. Louis, Miss. Believe this is incorrect as he does not appear on 1861 or 1862 muster rolls." }
In this case, it looks like he stayed home in Lawrence County and was recruited in Covington County by Captain Webb who was sent home to replenish the ranks of the companies hurt the worst in the battle of Murfreesboro in January 1863. Co. I was almost depleted. Capt. John Fairly Co. I also went home to recruit. --Ron Skellie
