"Mack's" brother in law, John Wesley Dyess servered in Co I 7th Regt MS Inf CSA. Could have been in same unit as a M.W. Ward is listed in same unit and KIA. MS State Archives and History cannot provide additional identifying information, nor can I find any additional information.
George Dykes SR family tree on Ancestry.com list a John Mack Ward as spouse of Martha Dyess and son Jasper Ward. Doubt this as list him as killed in Cickamagua, GA, John M. Ward listed Corinth National Cemetry Section A Site 2081.
Don't think this is the correct "Mack" Ward as I was told only Union soldiers were buried there.
"Mack" could be "a nick name", name could be Mccuen Wm Ward, John McEwin Ward, or any other variation.
Would some one with some expertise and DSL connection check other Covington County Units for "Ward's" KIA and let me know something.
Thank you for your assistance.
