My gg grandfather A. J. Hemphill was given a medical release from "Camp near Abbeville" and sent home; he lived near French Camp. He later died of those wounds and is buried in Ackerman.

He served in the 31st MS. Some where I have a copy of that release, seems it was signed by a cousin who was a doctor. Another family member (by marrige) was Capt. Drane of that unit.
