Alan, thx for responding. I was aware of the 60 day furlough for reenlisting and the bounty for three years but did not know the exact date. I will explain what I'm trying to do. There was a soldier named J.R. Turner of Company K 2nd Mississippi Regiment. Private Turner has CMSR's and according to them he was wounded and captured at the battle of Shiloh. He was taken to Camp Dennison and died there on May 12, 1862. He now has a stone at the Camp Chase Cemetery that says J.R. Turney Co. K 2nd Miss CSA. Because of where his stone lies he had to come from Camp Dennison.

Company K was known as the Iuka Rifles and many of its members came from Tishomingo County MS. That as you know is not too far from Shiloh. Since Co. K was mustered into service on April 6, 1861 I would like to know of the date Company K took its furlough. Hence the needing of an expert with Co. K 2nd MS. I do consider many of the members at Jim's board as experts including yourself Alan. However as you know some of the people here are more specific in their areas of knowledge. Perhaps using the word expert was a mistake on my part.

I do not know for sure but I would imagine that the furloughs were given out by Company? Otherwise the entire regiment would be gone. This would depend of course on the time frame and location of the regiment.

Even the Adjuant Generals Office was not clear on Private J.R. Turner as they inquired about him in 1910 and as far as I can see did not receive a clear answer.

This as close as I can get to their location at time of furlough.

Stationed at Camp Bartow, April 1, 1862.
April 1.— Muster-in roll of the recruits for Captain J. M. Stone's
Company, in the Second Regiment (— Brigade) of Mississippi
Volunteers, commanded by Colonel W. C. Falkner, called into
the service of the Confederate States in the Provisional Army,
under the provisions of the Act of Congress by —, from —

(date of this muster) for the term of [three years], unless sooner
discharged.

W. C. FALKNER,

Colonel,

Second Mississippi Regiment, Mustering Officer.

Alan, was the entire regiment on furlough or staggered with a few companies at a time? I would be curious to your opinion of Private J.R. Turner. Thx Dennis
