Somewhere in the forum I saw a posting this morning that said Meriman (my GGGF) was married to a "Sallie". He was in fact the husband of a Sarah Mae Watson (Pound). They had moved to (finally) Itawamba County in about 1845 from Millidgeville, Ga. Their daughter, Sarah Jane Pound, married Meriman's (43rd's) 4th corporal Jesse Ivey Hunt after the war. One of their 8(?) children, William Robert Hunt, graduated from Mississippi state and went on to medical school at Tulane. On January 8th 1938 Dr. Hunt was called to east Tupelo to assist in the delivery of a child. The mother was in difficulty and one of the two baby boys yielded of that delivery was stillborn. That was Elvis Presley's brother. Gladys and Vernon paid "Uncle Will" with a sack of potatoes for his services - par for the course in the grossly depressed community of east Tupelo in the middle of the Great Depression. Uncle Will died of a burst appendix in 1952 or thereabouts - still in his prime.
