I'm researching John Calvin Knight (born 1842), who enlisted in the Enterprise Tigers (Co. D of the 37th Miss Inf) on March 7, 1862. Looking through the digitized Unit Info cards on Fold3, it seems that this company was the first organized. (Co. B was March 8, and I think the Shubuta Co was March 8 as well, and the others various later dates.)
Here's my problem: I'm trying to figure out where this John Calvin Knight came from. At first I thought it was significant that he enlisted in Enterprise, in Clarke County, but as I understand it now, half the 37th Miss Inf companies were organized in Clarke County, and more than one in Enterprise. Does his enlistment in the Enterprise Tigers give me any leads as to where in Mississippi he was from?
