Joseph Bellew, age 43, Private, Captain Richard Charlton's Company, Mississippi Vols. (unattached),* enlisted March 13, 1862 at Raymond by Rich Charlton for 12 months, serving as Acting Assistant Provost Sergeant August 1862, captured at Harrodsburg, Ky. October 10, 1862, sent to Vicksburg for exchange, via Cairo December 5, 1862, recorded the end of the year 1862 as absent without leave, left sick at hospital, Bardstown, Ky. Jan./Feb, 1863, recorded on the May & Jun, 1863 muster roll as"Deserted, Sent to hospital and not being able to return did not receive his discharge, he being entitled to discharge by reason of his being a non-conscript," no further records

* This company subsequently became Company K, 3rd Battalion Mississippi Infantry
